The Estonian Traditional Music Center residency program will begin in fall of 2017. We are looking for folk musicians, traditional music ensembles and pedagogues who are interested in cooperating with Estonian musicians or wish to learn about Estonian traditional music. The Center is able to provide regular rehearsing space, a chamber hall and concert hall for performances and technical support. In addition, there is a regular concert program happening in the building, the Center is home to the biggest folk music library in the Baltics and the organisation is frequented by folk musicians from Estonia. The Center organises one of the biggest music festivals in the Baltics - the Viljandi Folk Music Festival. There are several different possibilities to collaborate with the Viljandi Culture Academy folk music department as well.
The outcome of the residency would need to be presented in some form at the Traditional Music Center, whether it is a concert, a workshop programme, research materials etc.
The Center is available for residency from September to June.
Artist can be accommodated in the Center, in a hostel near the Center or in a cottage outside of Viljandi. Each place has different possibilities, but all provide basic amenities like a bed, shower, toilet and wi-fi.
Technical Information - Both halls are equipped with PA & concert lighting. The rehearsing space can be adjusted to the artists needs either with recording equipment, different amplifiers or whatever else the artist might need for the creative process, provided this can be agreed upon beforehand.
