Juhan Uppin, Martin Arak, and Kert Krüsban / PÄRNU • Tour of the Best Solo Musicians

Osta pilet
From November 1 to 17, 2024, three musicians who have been awarded the title of "Best Solo Musician" will embark on a concert tour across every region of Estonia. The tour features Juhan Uppin, who was honored with the very first "Best Solo Musician" title in 2018, Martin Arak, who earned the title in 2020, and Kert Krüsban, who received the prestigious title in 2022. Since the title of "Best Solo Musician" is lifelong, Estonia now has three such musicians who are eager to bring joy to audiences across the country with their music.

Juhan Uppin (diatonic zither and Teppo-style accordion)
Juhan Uppin is considered one of the finest, most respected, and most decorated musicians of his time. In addition to his work as a musician, he is also deeply involved in teaching and researching traditional music. Uppin's "everyday" instrument is the Teppo-style accordion, while his "Sunday" instruments are various types of zithers. At the concerts of the three Best Solo Musicians, he promises to surprise the audience by bringing along a few other favorite instruments, as being such an exceptional accordion and zither player means he doesn’t always have to play those instruments himself.

Martin Arak, aka Kandle-Oss (folk zither)
Martin Arak, who won the title of Best Solo Musician in 2020, is a humble man from the Rõngu region, also known by the name Kandle-Oss. His beloved hobby is playing the folk zither, following the tradition of his ancestors. A third-generation folk musician, Kandle-Oss captivates with his charismatic presence and nimble fingers, and when he sings, his voice echoes far and wide, making everyone within a kilometer want to join in! Despite his rugged appearance, behind the facade lies a gentle soul and warm heart, father to two daughters, and he shares this warmth generously with his listeners. After Kandle-Oss became the Best Solo Musician, even the legendary Vanemuine himself came to offer him a zither.

Kert Krüsban (accordion)
Kert Krüsban began playing music as soon as he could hold the small children's accordion left behind by his grandfather. Thanks to the Lahemaa Folk Musicians, his early tinkering evolved into real music, and within their community, Kert grew into an accordion player. Simultaneously, he began formal accordion studies at Loksa Music School. Later, his musical journey continued at the Heino Eller Music School, where he specialized in traditional accordion. In 2022, Kert was awarded the title of Best Solo Musician.
